Yes, yes....
I'm going to read it. I hope they explain why do we know the universe
is expanding. I've never been able to understand how that is inferred.
Have you? Please explain.

"The Doppler red-shift of light observed from distant stars and
galaxies gives evidence that the universe is expanding (moving away
from a central point)."

That said, I believe their reasoning is flawed....

What is the central point? Us?

I'm all ears, although I'm I've no sophistication in the area.

There is no centre of the universe! According to the standard theories
of cosmology, the universe started with a "Big Bang" about 14 thousand
million years ago and has been expanding ever since. Yet there is no
centre to the expansion; it is the same everywhere.

So why did you say central point?

The third law?
5th law of thermodynamics?

A central component of Thomas Kuhn's philosophy of measurement is what
he calls the fifth law of thermodynamics. According to this "law,"
there will always be discrepancies between experimental results and
scientists' prior expectations, whether those expectations arise from
theory or from other experimental data.
